Now that Portainer is installed it’s time to set it up. docker volume create portainer_dataĭocker run -d -p 8000:8000 -p 9443:9443 -name portainer -restart=always -v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock -v portainer_data:/data portainer/portainer-ee:latest As you can get 5 free installs of Portainer-s Business edition that’s the version I’ll be installing today. So, as this oracle instance is only going to run docker I’m only going to be installing Portainer rather than installing cockpit as well. Some people might think this is not needed but I prefer to use a graphical user interface when setting this up on my machines. $(lsb_release -cs) stable" | sudo tee /etc/apt//docker.list > /dev/nullĪpt install docker-ce docker-ce-cli containerd.io docker-compose-plugin Follow the commands below to install the repo and docker too apt install ca-certificates curl gnupg lsb-releaseĬurl -fsSL | sudo gpg -dearmor -o /etc/apt/keyrings/docker.gpg sudo su -īefore we install docker we need to set up the repo. If you have also decided to go with ubuntu use the commands below to make sure your instance is us to date. (Just make sure to change the file path, username and IP address) ssh -i 2 – Update everything If you are using an Oracle Cloud Instance like myself you’ll need to you a command like the one below to access your instance. STEP 1 – Connect to Your Instance via SSH I’ll say it now in case anyone is tempted that the instance is only temporary for this tutorial and has already been deleted so don’t be surprised if it doesn’t work should you try to access it.Īs I’m starting from a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04 Minimal on my Oracle Cloud Instance, I thought this might be the best place to start this tutorial of sorts. So I’ve set up a free Instance on my Oracle Cloud Account that I’m going to set up docker on, run a container then open a Cloudflare Tunnel so I can access it from the outside world without having to mess with port forwarding. Not only that I thought I’d write a short tutorial on getting Cloudflare Tunnels set up on Docker. I thought this was so amazing that I thought I’d share it with you. Tunnels are part of Cloudflare’s Zero Trust Platform and allow you to send web traffic to your home lab by creating a tunnel out from your server to Cloudflare and then they use their infrastructure and technical wizardry to allow access to your services without opening any ports on your modem. So after a few days of banging my head against a wall trawling through forums, I came across Cloudflare Tunnels. Turns out that TalkTalk’s Modem doesn’t allow you to open certain ports, which wouldn’t be a problem if I wasn’t running Nginx Proxy Manager to router tariff, requiring ports 80 & 443, and the 2 ports that TalkTalk have block being, you guessed it, 80 & 443. I just thought that I could open a few ports and Bobs your uncle. We recently changed our internet service provider from Vodafone to TalkTalk and one of the things I didn’t think about was accessing my home lab from outside the network.

Twitter took umbrage with the success of Rutter’s cover, noting the importance of the song for Black women." Put Your Records On" is a song by English singer Corinne Bailey Rae from her self-titled debut studio album (2006). I was seeing it as a fun side thing that I could put out in between albums. I wasn’t at all expecting anything that happened from it to happen. But working on that song, I was like, “This is a really well-written song, objectively.” That part of me wanted to remind people about it. I went through a pretty intense pretentious indie kid phase, where I had zero appreciation for pop music. It’s also just such a good song, obviously. It has always been the epitome of a joyful, hopeful song for me. It reminded me of writing in the back of my mom’s minivan and a much simpler time. My mom really loves that song - around when it came out, she’d play it all the time. “ You know the songs that you just have memorized your whole life? It was totally one of those songs for me. Momney had nothing but praise for Rae’s song in the Billboard interview. Rutter’s cover is so popular on Tik-Tok that 1.4 million videos have been created using the song as the music track. After all, the carved pumpkin has evolved into the modern icon of the one holiday dedicated to fright. The shell is made of real wax coating and the flame flickers like a real candle. It’s no surprise then that each aspect of the journey to the jack-o’-lantern as we know it - the legend of Stingy Jack, marsh lights and the carved pumpkin trick - carries a certain air of mystery. 794 Extra Savings Promotion Available 1 Applicable Promotion Color: Multi-a-01 100 ABS Imported Halloween LED Jack-O-Lantern Face PumpkinThe design of the pumpkin candles is special and lifelike. Like all good legends, the tale of Stingy Jack was born from some truth, as a medieval explanation for the “flame-like phosphorescence caused by gases from decaying plants in marshy areas,” as Merriam-Webster’s dictionary puts it. These illuminated jack olanterns are placed to form impressive displays from. By the early 20th century, carved pumpkins had adopted the name we now use. It was only after 19th century Americans saw the connection between the legend and the spookily lit-up carved pumpkins they were creating that the two came to be seen as connected. In fact, European art from the 16th century used the pumpkin as a symbol for North American “untamed wilderness,” as she explains.īut still, the story of Jack and his lantern has nothing to do with a pumpkin. And the pumpkin itself was a rather sinister vegetable historically, Bannatyne writes. “Jack of the lantern,” according to that version of the history, became “Jack-o’-Lantern.”īased on Jack’s tale, there remains a bit of irony in his pumpkin’s symbolic ability for bringing people together. The devil leaves Jack with nothing other than a burning piece of coal, and Jack wanders aimlessly for the rest of eternity: just a ghost and his floating light. The devil leaves Jack with nothing other than a burning piece of coal, and Jack wanders aimlessly for the rest of eternity: just a ghost and his floating light. In many versions of the story, the frustrates the devil so much that upon his death, he is locked out from the gates of Hell. Often called “Stingy” Jack, he spends much of his life tricking the devil. Jack-o-lanterns originated from an Irish myth about a man nicknamed Stingy Jack, who tricked the Devil and was forced to roam the earth with only a burning coal in a turnip to light his way. The story, which has several different iterations, can be traced back to as long ago as 1551, Bannatyne says, and is quite sinister indeed. So, where did the name Jack come from? There are a few steps in this story, and the etymology of “jack-o’-lantern” is almost unrelated to its modern meaning and tradition.Īccording to one prominent theory, the “Jack” in question is the subject of an old folktale. To test this hypothesis, his group exposed rat pups to pulses of white noise throughout their infancy and found that the pups’ cortices were devastated. “How would such noise affect the developing brain?” Merzenich wondered. There is always a din.” he continues “White noise is everywhere now, coming from fans in our electronics, air conditioners, heaters, and car engines.” “Infants are reared in continuously more noisy environments. Scientists believe that background noise might hamper the proper growth and development of infant’s brains.Īccording to Michael Merzenich, Professor Emeritus and Neuroscientist at the University of California, San Francisco. He also cited a similar study, conducted on children living in public high-rise housing above the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago, that study also found that the closer these children’s floors were to the highway, the lower their intelligence. Norman Doidge, a psychiatrist, researcher and faculty at the University of Toronto’s Department of Psychiatry, in his book The Brain That Changes Itself cites one disturbing study which showed that the closer children lived to the noisy airport in Frankfurt, Germany, the lower their intelligence was. It turns out, the continuous background noise also known as white noise which comes from machines and other appliances, can harm your brain, it does so by overstimulating your auditory cortex– the part of the brain that helps us perceive sound.ĭr. Generally speaking, sounds above 85dB are harmfulĪnd remember, the louder the noise and the longer the duration of exposure to it the more harm it causes.
